Lately I have been posting about guns and the feedback and discussion has been excellent. I wanted to continue with topic of guns and cover another of the tools I take to the range. I choose to discuss my wife’s first .22 after some lively discussion on Twitter about which .22 to buy.
The pistol featured in this video is a Berretta Neos. I picked this gun up for my wife for Christmas a couple of years ago. We took an NRA Basic Pistol Safety class together. During this class my wife had the opportunity to shoot the instructors Beretta Neos and fell in love with it. Weeks after taking the class my wife continued to tell me how much she enjoyed shooting the pistol. So, I did what any loving husband with a gun hobby would do, I made sure she had one to enjoy.
Tell us about your favorite .22
What is it about that gun that makes it so much fun to shoot?

Hi Walt, just found your site, watched your cigar site for about a year or so, enjoy it. My ”22” is a Smith & Wesson Model 41. I love this gun, shoots great, feels good in my hand, and it looks great. Have had the gun for at least 15 years, maybe longer. The sad thing is that it has been 3 years since I have shot, just seems like there is never the time. Again enjoy your comments. Swede
Swede,
I’m not familiar with the Smith & Wesson Model 41. I thought it was a revolver and decided to look it up. That is a very cool pistol you have, looks like it is a lot of fun.
Thanks for watching and leaving a comment.
Great Segment Walt, I just saw the Neos at the last Gun show here in town a couple weeks ago your right it looks like a space gun. As I have told you before I love my MKIII and Ruger stands behind everything they make. Great gun, if your looking down the Line at getting a 1911 they also make a MKIII22/45 which has the same grip angles and set up as a 1911 but only in a 22LR format. Any time you want to try the Ruger let me know we can get together have a stick and shoot some lead down range. Enjoy!!!
Corey,
We’ll definitely have to get together to smoke a cigar and do some shooting. Did you ever make it out to Mohton Gun Club?

No I haven’t yet, I can go up anytime with my friend but the trick is finding time with the little one. I’m off work tomorrow and was thinking of stopping in at Fairgrounds for a stick before I leave if the wife will let me out. Are you around?
Yeah, I have time to stop over for a bit. I’ll be leaving work around 11:00 and can be there by 11:15’ish. I need to pick my daughter up from the babysitter tomorrow, so I’ll need to take off around 2:30
I’ll check with the Wife and see what our time slots look like apperantly we need to be on the road a little sooner then I thought I’ll hit you up Tom. and let you know for sure.
Walt, thanks for your comment, I also have some fun [used to] with a ”686” 357 Mag. 6 in. barrel,S&W.
Swede,
I don’t own any revolvers and have only shot a couple of them. One of these days I want to get one and I think it will most likely be a J Frame Smith & Wesson. Maybe further down the road I’ll be fortunate enough to have one of the larger models.
Thanks for the comments
Walt, I have 2 favorite .22s. The pistol is my Ruger Mk. II. with slab sided 5.5″ bull barrel. It is accurate and will pretty much shoot any ammo that is .22LR.
But for pure fun, my Ruger 10/22 is best. It is great fun to shoot at rocks, clay pigeons, plastic cups, metal pieces, or whatever I have.
BTW I believe the Neos is based on this gun: http://johnny556x45.blogspot.com/2009/11/colt-22-pistol.html
Keith,
The more people talk about that Ruger MK pistol, the more I want one. While my wife’s Beretta is lots of fun, I think I need “one of my own”.
Can a red dot easily be mounted onto the Ruger? The Beretta has a rail for accessories.
Enjoyed the video Walt. As Keith mentioned the Ruger 10/22 is a great gun. I love mine and would never get rid of it. I have yet to shoot a Ruger 22 that I felt was a poor product, everyone of them was reliable and accurate.
Aaron,
I’m ashamed to say it, but I don’t own a Ruger 10/22. It seems to be one of those guns that al shooters should own. One day I think I’ll have to remedy that.
Thanks for watching and leaving a comment
Walt the MKiii comes with a rail system you can mount with 3 screws that are very easy to do your self. already drilled and tapped.
Corey,
Thanks for the info
I love my S&W M&P 15-22 rifle and also my Ruger 10/22 rifle. I have a Walther P22 and it constantly jams on me even with CCI minimags. I was thinking about getting a Beretta Neos tomorrow. I like the way it looks and I’ve read more positive than negative reviews.
I love that you gave your wife a basic safety pistols. This should be the norm when giving a gun to a newbie.
I gave my wife a Ruger and I also gave here a beginners course for firearm safety. Because I did not have the time to teach her myself.
I picked up a Ruger SR22 for my wife. I feel like it’s the best .22 handgun out there for women (due to its lightweight, compact size, and its very easy to use). It’s a great training handgun and a fun plinker.
