Discussion Topic:
Went into my safe to check on something when I spotted my Smith & Wesson M&P. I picked it up lovingly, thinking that I should shoot it more often. That is when I noticed the takedown lever was covered in rust and the slide and rear sight were speckled.
Ask The Audience:
When the subject of new firearms comes up, one of the common topics discussed is ‘How Many Rounds Before you trust the weapon for Self Defense or Competition”. Outside of any manufacturer suggested break-in period, how many rounds will you put through a given weapon before you deem it safe for Carry or Competition?

Sorry to here about your M&P again. I’m really hoping you just got a bad batch. I also have a M&P 9 and have not had any rust at all. The sights still look new white dots and all. what lube do you use? Not that the coated parts should rust ether way.
Joe,
I’m not sure what lube I’m using. I picked up a bottle of gun oil a couple of years ago and have yet to run out (the stuff seems to last forever). I”m sure Smith & Wesson will remedy it for me, I’m just getting frustrated.
Two of the three dots on my sights have fallen out. One of these days I’d like to install a set of Warren Tactical Sights. I love them on my Glocks.
Great show Walt, I agree with you on the topic of having an EDC while going out for a beer, or dinner. I have thought about it over the past being a social drinker and growing up in a bar more or less, if I know I’m going to have a bit to much I don’t carry but 99% of the rest of the time I always carry. I do have a question to you and your listeners, how do they deal with going from Point A-B-C when you can’t carry in Point B, last night I had running around to do and having my EDC on me, one of my stops was to a highschool to watch a volleyball game, I was forced to leave my firearm in the Car I locked it in the trunk hidden out of sight but I hate doing that, is there a Car safe that some use or do they just not carry when they know there will be a place that isn’t carry friendly?
I like to run 500 rounds without any problems though my ccw handguns .
Before I put them in my carry rotation. It seems unnecessary and several of my firearms do not have a break in period or amount of rounds fired listed but it does not hurt to give them a good workout before putting them to use. This has been my practice for the last few years after I had a few guns already available and could take my time and get the rounds through the new guns.
