Way back in 2006, Jerry Cruz and I started what has become a very popular cigar blog, Stogie Review. Not long into our blog’s life, we began to experiment with Video Cigar Reviews. The experiment was a success and we ultimately opted to go with Blip.TV to host our videos.
We’ve been using Blip.TV for quite a while now and it has been a great service. I was so impressed with it that when it was time to select a service for the videos here on WaltInPA, I went with Blip. They offered some solid features that weren’t offered on YouTube and there were virtually no troll comments to deal with.
All was good up until a couple of months ago. I got word that Blip.TV was cutting out video producers that didn’t create a web-based series. I was worried about Stogie Review but thought I might be able to slip under the radar with WaltInPA because, technically speaking, my Shooting The Breeze Podcast is a series of sorts.
As it turns out, I wasn’t so lucky. Yesterday I received the dreaded email that my account was being removed and I would have 30 days to move my content off of the Blip.TV servers. I’ve started the painstaking process of downloading each individual video. As you would imagine, with video that goes all the way back to 2009, this is going to take a while.
I considered just letting the video disappear forever but the thought of so many broken blog posts bugs me. I’ll have to go back and re-upload my video to YouTube then update old blog posts. The process may take far longer than 30 days so, please bear with me as I get everything updated.
