Running for Vice President at Stowe Archers

A few weeks ago, I found myself in a bit of a bind. I spent the morning sitting in a tree and took what I thought was a solid shot at a doe. I was unable to find my arrow and spent over an hour turning up every leaf in the vicinity. Fearing that my arrow was sticking out of a deer somewhere on the property, I did the only thing I could think of, I reached out for help.

My mentor, who I’ve learned an awful lot from, came to the rescue. He left work and drove an hour to meet me at Stowe Archers. When he arrived, we walked into the woods and I explained the shot in as much detail as possible.

Within five minutes he found my arrow just outside of my search area. The thought was that my arrow may have hit a branch while en route to the deer and wound up off target. There was no blood on the arrow. It was a major relief knowing I didn’t wound the animal but I was also disappointed that I wouldn’t be dragging out a deer.

We went from the woods to a local buffet to grab lunch and catch up. With my recent move, combined with my wife’s school schedule, it had been a while since we got together. During lunch, the topic of Stowe Archers nominations came up and I made mention that Bill wasn’t planning on re-running for Vice President.

To my surprise, it was suggested that I throw my hat in the ring and run for the position. My initial thought was that the idea was crazy. What business do I have running for a club officer position? I’ve only been a member for a little over a year and most of the officers are at least my father’s age.

My mentor pressed on and explained that I’m already very involved with the club. He felt that If I were to be elected, I would make for a good Vice President. I drove home after lunch with mixed feelings. I spent the next day going back and forth with the idea of running.

I made a Facebook Post on my personal page that I was warming up to the idea of running for the position of Vice President. Within minutes I had comments of support which was followed by a text message that an influential member at the club would be happy to nominate me.

That Sunday the November Membership Meeting took place and I was officially nominated. I accepted the nomination and will be running against another member. The feedback has been positive and while the member I’m running against has been around substantially longer, it sounds as though I may have a shot at being elected.

Elections take place on December 21st at 3:00pm
