I should start off this blog post by explaining that I’m a pretty simple guy when it comes to food. I don’t have a wild and crazy desire to seek out exciting new foods and am happy to rotate through the same meals week after week.
An example of my simplicity can be seen in our family refrigerator. If you were to come over for a visit and peek inside, you’d find a bunch of Greek Yogurt. My wife and I both take it to work and it is a great source of protein. I stick to the simple flavors like Blueberry and Strawberry. My wife will mix it up with Key Lime Pie, Lemon Meringue, and whatever other complicated flavors the grocery store has on hand.
I’m the kind of guy that is content with eating the same foods on the same days week after week. I’ve never had sushi, I’ve never had guacamole, and I drink my coffee black. I’m that kind of guy, I keep it simple and don’t necessarily feel bad about my lack of flavor experience.
Understanding the type of person I am, imagine what it was like the first time I stepped foot in the supplement aisle at Walmart. There I stood, looking for a simple protein powder, and I am presented with all sort of choices. Overwhelmed, I grabbed a tub of basic chocolate and was on my way.
Every time I’ve ever bought protein powder it has been chocolate. Well, except for that one time I was feeling a little wild and bought peanut butter & chocolate…
Anyway, a couple of weeks ago I was sitting down with my Personal Trainer at Anytime Fitness of Gilbertsville when she suggested I start taking a Post-Workout Protein Isolate Shake. She recommended 1st Phorm and was even nice enough to make me up a shake from her personal supply.
As I sipped at the Vanilla Milkshake flavored protein shake, she told me all about the wild flavors that the company offered. Loopy Fruit and CTC that tasted just like the milk at the bottom of a bowl of fruit loops or cinnamon toast crunch. To most people I’m sure that sounds absolutely delightful, to me it sounded disgustingly sweet.
Not wanting to spend upwards of $65 for 30 servings of Protein Powder, I passed on 1st Phorm and began looking at other options. I was considering ETB Fitness but wound up picking up some Six Star to hold me over.
I took to the Slimming Down Dad Podcast to ask for suggestions and I received a message from Keith Queen (you may remember Keith from Episode 6 of the Slimming Down Dad Podcast). Keith told me that he was very happy with products from Quest Nutrition and that he had a single serving sample he could send to me if I was interested. I was happy to take him up on the offer.
A few days later I came home from the gym to find a package waiting for me on my front porch. Inside was the Quest Protein sample I had been eager to try. The first thing I did when I walked through the door was make myself a shake. I was a little apprehensive about the flavor – Salted Caramel, but it wound up being very good.
I was so impressed by the Quest Nutrition sample that I placed an order for more. Between the taste, quality, nutritional information, and price, I felt like I couldn’t go wrong. I wound up getting a 2lb Canister of Salted Caramel as well as single serving samples for Chocolate Milkshake, Banana Cream, and Peanut Butter.
I’m sure I’ll try other protein supplements as time goes on but right now I am a proud Quest Nutrition Supporter.
