Finding Joy in Unexpected Places: A Memorable Motorcycle Ride to Remember

As we roll into 2025, I’ve been reflecting on the rides that made 2024 special. While the year didn’t provide as many opportunities to hit the road as I’d hoped, one particular adventure stands out – a day that perfectly captures why I love motorcycling and the community that comes with it.

Most Memorable Motorcycle Ride of 2024

The Setup

It started as a simple plan that had been brewing for months. Pat and I, both cigar enthusiasts from our Discord communityOpens in a new tab., had been talking about organizing a ride to Cigars International in Hamburg, PAOpens in a new tab.. You know how these things go – you talk about them forever, but making them happen is another story. Finally, we decided to stop talking and start riding.

More Than Just a Ride

What made this ride special wasn’t just the destination – it was the company and the unexpected moments along the way. TrekkieMotoOpens in a new tab. joined us for the first leg of the journey, and while cigars weren’t his thing (totally understandable!), his presence added to the day’s enjoyment. We took the scenic route to Hamburg, turning what could have been a direct trip into a 90-minute adventure through Pennsylvania’s backroads.

The Westy: A Hidden Gem

Our first stop was The Westy Bar and GrilleOpens in a new tab., a place I’d never visited before but now can’t wait to return to. Finding motorcycle-friendly establishments isn’t always easy, but The Westy gets it right. With dedicated motorcycle parking and fantastic burgers, it’s clear why riders gravitate here. The laughter and conversation shared over lunch reminded me why group rides are so special – it’s these moments of connection that make the motorcycling community unique.

Unexpected Reunions

The day’s surprises were just beginning. At Cigars International, what are the odds of running into my sister and her husband? Of all places! They were there shopping for a pipe, making for an unexpected family reunion. Then, on the balcony, a chance encounter with a friend of a friend from a local motorcycle club added another layer of “small world” magic to the day.

Getting Lost (In the Best Way)

The cherry on top? A “Road Closed” sign that sent both Pat and his son in one direction and me in another, leading to what I like to call an “unplanned exploration” of the local back roads. For about 30-40 minutes, we were both hilariously lost, crisscrossing the same area without ever crossing paths. Sometimes the best stories come from these unexpected detours.

Looking Forward

While 2024 might not have been my most active year on two wheels, this ride embodied everything I love about motorcycling – friendship, adventure, unexpected encounters, and even getting a little lost. It’s inspired me to make more opportunities for group rides in 2025, even if that means driving to a meetup spot during the cold Pennsylvania winter months when riding isn’t possible.

Final Thoughts

Sometimes the most memorable rides aren’t the longest or the most carefully planned – they’re the ones where everything just comes together naturally. The combination of good friends, great food at The WestyOpens in a new tab., surprising reunions at Cigars InternationalOpens in a new tab., and even getting lost made this ride stand out in a year that otherwise felt a bit light on motorcycle adventures.
