Satire can be an excellent way to make a point which would otherwise go ignored. The trouble with satire is that it can be very difficult to pull off properly. When it works, it can be a thing of beauty.
Today I came across a Facebook graphic which did a fantastic job of inciting anger. The message it conveyed was horrible, perhaps horrible is too weak a word, but the reaction it created was simply a thing of beauty.
The important figure in the screenshot above is the number shares the graphic received. This piece of satire made its way onto 1,500+ timelines by the time I took the screenshot. Every time someone posted a comment or liked the graphic, that person’s friends were exposed. I lost track of how many times it appeared on my timeline. I can only imagine the reach this graphic has had in just the past few hours.
When I first laid eyes on the graphic, I could feel my blood pressure rise. I’m sure thousands upon thousands of people had the same reaction. In my opinion, this is a very good thing. I can only hope that the fog has lifted and those with a less-than-fond view of guns can now realize just how important they can be in a self defense situation.
It is also worth noting that, based on what I’ve found, this is not actually a graphic released by the Brady Campaign. While I in no way wish to defend them, I think it is important to know that it isn’t theirs. I do, however, think that the message is in-line with something that they would promote.

I first read it from a Tweet, and I immediately tried to find it on the Brady website. When I couldn’t, I suspected it was a fake (I suppose “satire” is a term one could use) but I also worry that we are escalating the war of words between gun rights advocates and the gun banners.
Do not be angered, then, at the next Eddie Eagle poster that shows 6 year olds in a classroom with AR-15’s.
I agree with you, this could get hairy for gun owners as well. I would have preferred the Brady Campaign Logo not been on the image (I think it would have been just as powerful without it).
I recently saw a screenshot that showed that the Brady Campaign posted this to their wall on Facebook, then denied it came from them. I don’t know the real story or where it came from, but it is an emotion stirring (anger) picture.
The screenshot was posted by Facebook group “2nd Amendment”.
I haven’t seen that screenshot. I’ll have to poke around a little to see if it turns up anywhere. I wouldn’t be at all surprised if they shared / re-posted the graphic then realized the damage it would do.
I can’t believe the Brady people would have let this slip out.
