About a week prior to trading in my 2018 Honda CB650F for my new 2022 Yamaha MT-09, I was riding around on Pennsylvania Back Roads when I came across a placard for a Historical Site – Dale Ironworks (Hereford Furnace). I’d ridden past this same sign countless times before and was never able to actually locate the the old furnace.
After riding around for a while, I began making my way back home when a large stone marker caught my eye. As I passed, I made out the words Dale Ironworks carved into the stone. It seemed that I had managed to find the historical location when I stopped actively looking for it.
I parked my Honda CB650F on the side of the road and made my way to the marker on foot. While there, I found a cool little painted rock from Lehigh Valley Rocks. It would seem someone had hidden it away there for someone to find while exploring.
From what I can tell, there are several old buildings that remain on the property, however, it is privately owned and only a few are visible from the roadside. If you ever find yourself in the area and would care to visit – I’ve marked the approximate location on a google map that can be viewed here.
