At this very moment it is 6:19am on a Saturday morning. A light rain passed through last night leaving my deck and patio furniture a bit wet. I know this because I’m sitting outside right now with a cup of coffee on one side of my laptop and a cigar on the other.
I’ve been watching a cursor flash on a blank page for about twenty minutes now. The whole premise of being outside this early in the morning was to take advantage of a peaceful morning and do a little writing. The trouble is, I don’t know what the hell to write about!
You see, when I launched the Slimming Down Dad Podcast I also opened a variety of social media accounts to go along with it. I have the Slimming Down Dad Twitter Account, the Slimming Down Dad Instagram Account, and the Slimming Down Dad Facebook Page. In addition, I have a personal MyFitnessPal Account which I’m using socially.
Trying to interact on all of those services is leaving me drained. I despise the thought of posting the same update on every service or, worse yet, linking them all together. In my mind social media should be a way to socialize and not a way to present yourself as a used car salesman. I try to write updates for each service (minus Twitter, I don’t get much interaction so I tend to ignore it until I get a mention).
By the time I sit down to write something for my blog, I feel completely tapped out. I’ll come up with an idea and then have second thoughts.
I know, I’ll write about how my awesome wife got me a new FitBit as an early Birthday present!
Nah, that should probably go into an entire post about my fitness related Birthday gifts.
What about something on coaching?
Eh, I think I want to make that a Slimming Down Dad Short.
What about those new running shoes?
I probably shouldn’t, I don’t want to overload on the topic of running before I have a guest on the Podcast to talk about running.
Those are three topics that I could write about right now but I hold myself back because I don’t feel as though the timing is right. I’m beginning to think that I should stop worrying about ‘what is best for the blog’ and just worry about writing anything and everything that springs to mind.
I’ve been blogging for a long time and old habits are tough to break.
