These last few weeks, or perhaps I should say months – everything has been running together, have been rough. If I’m not working long hours, I’m taking care of my daughter (which is a pleasure most of the time, don’t get me wrong, but sometimes she can be a little monster), or working around the new house.
I haven’t shot a USPSA Match in nearly two months (which really bums me out) but I have been able to get out with my bow on a couple of rare occasions. I was able to sneak away and attend the Stowe Archers 3D Shoot in July and enjoyed myself. In addition to that shoot, I made it out to the club on Saturday evening to shoot a Field Round (I know, twice in as many weeks, crazy!).
I didn’t shoot the greatest round but the hour I spent in the woods sure was peaceful. Every so often I need an outlet. I need to do something that lets me forget about the stresses of everyday life and just concentrate on something fun and rewarding. Archery (as well as competitive pistol) is an excellent outlet.
The Field Round was the second time I got to shoot my new Spot-Hogg Whipper Snapper Release. The transition from my old release (wrist strap – trigger release) to the new release (hand-held thumb trigger) is a bit more tricky than I anticipated. I’m still working on finding a consistent anchor but things are coming along. The biggest difference is that there is zero creep in the trigger and it doesn’t take much pull weight to set it off (I had a surprise release at the 3D shoot and lost one arrow).
I came out of the woods soaking wet, sporting a whole bunch of mosquito bites, but I enjoyed myself. If I’m not going to be able to get out at shoot my pistol as often as I’d like (or even half as often), I really should make more of an effort to get out to the archery club. It would be nice to find a partner though, I miss shooting with Troy for the Field League.
