If you are seeing this blog post, I’d like to welcome you to the new WaltInPA.com server. You should notice the site is a bit more snappy and things are loading faster across the board.

On Saturday I ran into a situation with my host that I wasn’t entirely comfortable with. While sitting at my desk, at work, I received an alert on the my phone that my email account password was incorrect.

This seemed a bit odd, so I tried logging into my Webmail account to see if my phone was acting up. When I wasn’t able to log in, I then tried accessing my site’s back-end through cPanel. Just like with webmail, I was unable to log in (separate login credentials).

This sent my spidey senses to tingling and I got in touch with Midphase Support, when I arrived home. The vibe that I got from support was ‘You must have forgotten your password, why are you bothering me?’

I had support verify my account email and send a password reset. This worked and I was able to change my email credentials. When I asked how my password was changed, I was basically told “I don’t know”. They went on to tell me that my password could only be changed by someone logged into the account.

There was a complete lack of concern for my security and I thought it was best if I got out of Dodge and set up shop elsewhere. Fortunately, I already had an offer to migrate over to the WP Engine account Stogie Review is on.

Quite frankly, WP Engine is one of the best services I’ve ever used and I’ve wanted to get an account there for some time. The downside is that even personal accounts are a bit spendy (about twice what I’m paying on MidPhase).

I had support check my logs and it doesn’t appear as though there was any activity after my passwords stopped working. This leads me to believe there was some sort of automated password expiration that took place (even though support said that my password had not expired yet). Regardless, I was unhappy with the lack of concern over what took place.

I’m fortunate that Stogie Review was set up with growth in mind. We have plenty of space to expand and, for the time being, my little blog should cause no issues.
